EQUIPMENT

o Liquid biodegradable soap and pot scrubber

o Collapsible water container (2-3 gallon capacity)
o Water filter or purifier and backup water-treatment tablets
o Lantern
o Binoculars
o Field guides
o Digital camera/camera and film
o Notebook and pencil
o GPS receiver
o Extra batteries
o Watch/alarm clock
o Weather radio
o Lip balm
o Insect repellent and sunscreen
o Gear repair/sewing kit
o Toilet paper
o Toothbrush/toothpaste
o Large bath towel
o Small hand towel

o Other personal toiletry items
o Medicine
o All necessary passes and permits
o Money and photo ID
o Map and itinerary of trip including name and phone number of nearest ranger station (a copy also left with someone at home)

o Long-sleeve wicking or fleece shirt
o Fleece or wool vest
o Fleece jacket or wool sweater
o Quick-drying pants/shorts

o Sun hat (with brim)

o Fleece or wool beanie
o Fleece or wool gloves/mittens
o Heavy or midweight wool or synthetic-fiber socks
o Moisture-wicking liner socks

o Hiking boots/shoes w/ extra boot laces
o Map of area in waterproof case
o Compass
o Flashlight w/extra batteries and bulbs
o Trail snacks
o Light rain jacket
o Spare socks
o Drinking water
o Pocket knife or multitool
o First-aid kit
o Matches in waterproof container and fire starter
