While sitting around the campfire at night, you’ll find you can make dessert treats other than S’mores with the Pie Iron by Rome Industries. Want to toast a sandwich? Cook a fruit pie? You can with this unique product that’s available as a square, round or double iron. There are also designs for specific foods such as hot dogs and Italian Panini sandwiches.

The company’s best-selling design is its square Pie Iron, which weighs a tad over 3 pounds and measures 28 inches in overall length. It consists of two cast-iron, 4 -1/4×4-1/2-inch cooking cavities that hinge together at the end to form a clamshell. A chrome-plated steel rod with a wooden handle is pinned to each casting for rigidity. To make a sandwich, you butter each slice of bread and place each slice, buttered side down into each cavity, then add a dollop of filling. Close the Pie Iron, snap the handles shut and cook for three to four minutes over campfire coals, a BBQ or firepit. Good for campers with various tastes and food requests. MSRP: $16 Rome Industries: 800/818-7603; /romeindustries.com/ or /pieiron.com/
