Gear Test: Kelsyus Original Canopy Chair
Whether I am at the park, backyard or the campground, I appreciate sitting in a well-made chair. I’ve seen many chairs that look great and look durable, but once sitting in them, it’s a different story. Many chairs also come with narrow nylon bags that make it a challenge for one person to slide the collapsed chair into the bag while at the same time keeping the bag open. Though it’s a minor annoyance, I enjoyed not dealing with this when I tried the Kelsyus Original Canopy Chair by SwimWays.
The Original Canopy Chair’s flagship feature is its tilt-up full-size waterproof and UV-protected canopy that provides full shade and protection from the elements, making it great for campsites with minimal shade, and turns into the carry bag by wrapping itself around the chair.
First lower the canopy behind the chair, push the chair legs together, and then wrap and buckle-lock the canopy around the chair. Padded backpack straps are included for easy transport.
The canopy comes with utility pockets underneath for storing essential items, and it can be lowered behind the chair when not needed. The chair is made of heavy-duty 600 denier polyester, can support up to 250 pounds thanks to a durable 16mm powder coated steel frame, and is available in red, green and blue.
I quickly appreciated the canopy when using the chair for the first time. Both setting up the Kelsyus Original Canopy Chair and breaking it down took less than 60 seconds, and it was easy to carry. Less time setting any gear at camp means more time having fun. The canopy is also available in a “camo” design, as well as on the company’s kid’s chair and adult beach chair. MSRP: $30 to $40.
