Nevada offers amazing camping with such a diverse landscape from mountains to desert. One of the most popular parks for camping in Nevada is Great Basin National Park. There are tons of great outdoor activities to do while family camping in Great Basin National Park including visiting lakes and creeks for fishing and swimming, and more than 60 miles of trails for hiking. Family camping in Great Basin National Park also offers wildlife viewing, wild flower viewing, and bird watching. The diverse lands and opportunities for adventure make it a terrific Nevada camping destination!

Camping in Great Basin National Park has a lot to offer families year round, from hiking throughout gorgeous mountains and exploring deep caves, to incredible wildlife viewing. During winter months, families can enjoy snowshoeing and skiing. Tours in the Lehman Caves are open all year but are only accessible with a guide. There are two tours offered daily.

The park’s weather can change extremely quickly, so visitors should be ready for any condition. It’s important to watch the weather closely while planning your family camping trip in Great Basin National Park. When spring hits, the lower region might see a hot day while there is still snow in the higher elevations.  Summers in the park are usually warm, and thunderstorms are common in the afternoons. The park cools down during fall and snow is not uncommon in higher elevations. Winter brings silence to the park with lots of snow higher up. Because of this, many of the parks animals retire into hibernation or travel to the lower regions of the park. There is no entrance fee to enter the park, however, there is a per-person fee for the cave tours. Great Basin National Park is open year round, although some areas do close or become inaccessible during winter.

With so many things to see and activities to choose from, family camping in Great Basin National Park is a terrific Nevada camping spot.
